Herbaceous glabrous perennial, bearing flowers arranged in large umbels,  frequently found in shaded uncultivated areas, along the sides of country roads and at the margins of broadleaved woodlands. The specific epithet derives from the Greek word “podagra“, meaning gout, since in the past it was reputed to be effective against this disease.
