Native, cespitous herbaceous plant commonly found in riparian woodlands, along ditches and irrigation channels.
Its abundant linear leaves form distinctive, large, compact tufts, which in spring are topped by characteristic drooping inflorescences.
The Carex genus includes approximately 1,800 species, which can be found in an extremely wide range of different habitats.
