Marcello Piacentini - 1907

When he won the competition for the ‘Transformation of the Fiera buildings and adjacent structures’, Marcello Piacentini was an inexperienced 26 year old. But the Great War and a decade of disputes over land purchases intervened and it was not until 1922 that work on the Centro Piacentiniano was started, lasting until 1925. By the time work was completed and the square inaugurated, Piacentini was a 46 year old architect and town planner of great fame.
My main aim was to realize a series of squares closely connected with each other, each with its own individual function and connected by short passages, as if they were all rooms in a single apartment.
