Marcello Piacentini - 1925

At just twenty-six years of age and yet to complete his degree, Marcello Piacentini won a competition to design the new Bergamo city centre. Key factors in his successful entry, entitled “Panorama”, were the decision to limit the height of the new buildings and the consideration given to the view of the Upper Town. Mere months after Piacentini’s win, new regulations safeguarding the landscape and historically and architecturally significant views were passed into Italian law.
